If you want to get away, escape, or just have a moment of zen – there is no better place than the Huangshan region of China’s Anhui province. More than 100 million years old, and extremely well known for sunrises and incredible mountains of grandeur, Huangshan is a meditation mecca. As the leading inspiration for traditional Chinese art and literature, it would be a mistake to miss this mesmerizing landscape.
Huangshan was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990, and in 2002 it was named the sister mountain of Jungfrau, in the Swiss Alps. There are said to be more than 60,000 stone steps carved into the mountains throughout the area, and over 30 miles of footpaths – some directly anchored into the cliff walls.
I’m pretty sure with cliffs reaching more than 3000 feet into the air, I wouldn’t want to be just walking on planks, while holding onto chains up the mountain. But, would I take the trams? Absolutely. Until I make my way to China, however, these pictures are enough to put me in a quiet mood, while soaking in all the beauty.
So take your own moment, and check out the Huangshan pictures we have below, and many more gorgeous pictures of this historical Chinese region back at Newscom!
